Carl Maria von Weber, Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss are just three of the great names inseparable from the history of opera in Dresden. The opera house is magnificent testimony to the architectural mastery of Gottfried Semper, who certainly had no inhibitions regarding splendour, but nevertheless placed himself in the service of the arts. Highlight of the visit is the magnificent auditorium with its famous five-minute clock and extravagant chandelier.
